Juan E. Galdamez

Born and raised in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Juan Galdamez found himself deep in poverty, surrounding the small, mountainous community his mother raised him and his sister in. At the age of 13, Juan’s mother obtained her US citizenship, which would ultimately change every aspect about the lives they once knew. In 1991, Juan Galdamez and his family would move from Honduras all the way to Crossett, Arkansas. During this time, Juan and his family would spend their first few years experiencing what we would consider the simple things in life, such as a microwave and a washing machine. Juan spent less than a week in America before enrolling full time in school where he and his sister would learn the English language as they went. Juan Galdamez would go on to receive his undergraduate degree at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. His road to nursing would eventually come to a rather quick halt when the tragic events of 9-11 made Juan realize he may have a different calling in life. Juan would go on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology in 2003. That summer, he applied and was accepted into The Ohio State University College of Optometry where he graduated in 2007 with a Doctorate of Optometry degree. After graduating, Juan decided it was time for the next step in his journey. He packed as much as he could into his 4-door Honda Accord, and moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. It wasn’t until 2012 Juan settled his family down in the comfortable town of Texarkana, Texas. Since then, Dr.Galdamez continues his passions as the owner and Optometrist here at Fant Eye Care. When he is not fulfilling his passions during the work day, Juan prefers to spend his spare time outside regardless of the heat index. “Landscaping is one of my favorite hobbies”, Juan describes his preferred activities as anything under the sun (literally.). Mowing the lawn, digging up dirt, planting flowers and trees, Juan also finds joy in sharing all of these passions with his best friend and wife, Rikki.
